The daily puzzle

Nine cells, two criteria each, one grid a day.

Every cell crosses its row criterion with its column criterion: find an answer that matches both. The rarer your answer among players, the more points it scores.

Iceland is in Europe and it is an island: it matches both criteria of its cell. A country can only be used once.

How it works

  1. 1Fill the nine cellsTap a cell and search for your answer. It must match both its row and its column criteria, and each answer can only be used once.
  2. 2Three livesA wrong answer costs a life. Out of lives, the game ends, but the cells you found still count.
  3. 3Come back tomorrowOne game per universe per day. Playing every day grows your streak.
How points work

The rarer your answer among players, the more it scores. An answer nobody thinks of is worth far more than the obvious one. Mistakes cost a few points, and finishing fast earns a small bonus.

Geodoku Countries applies the Doku mechanic to the 197 countries of the world. Nine cells, one criterion per row and per column, and at every intersection a country that meets both. Africa crossed with Flag with a star: Ghana works, Kenya doesn't.

One grid a day, the same for everyone, three lives and a score that favours the countries other players didn't think of. Free play offers unlimited grids in four levels.

What the grid asks for

Continents and world regions, hemispheres, equator and tropics, landlocked, island or transcontinental countries, number of borders and neighbouring countries, flag colours and symbols, currencies, official languages, population, area and density, members of the European Union and of the major organisations, driving on the left, former colonies, hosts of the Olympic Games or the World Cup.

Frequently asked questions

Does a border through an overseas territory count?
Yes. France and Brazil are neighbours through French Guiana, and that border is accepted.
How are transcontinental countries handled?
A country that spans two continents or two hemispheres is accepted on both sides. Turkey counts in Europe as well as in Asia.
Is Geodoku Countries free?
Yes. Today's grid and free play are free to play in the browser, no account required. The Doku app is also available on iPhone and Android, with the same grids and the same progress.
