Iceland is in Europe and it is an island: it matches both criteria of its cell. A country can only be used once.

Geodoku applies the Doku mechanic to geography. Nine cells, one criterion per row and per column, and at every intersection a country, a capital, a department or a state that meets both. Africa crossed with Flag with a star: Ghana works, Kenya doesn't.

Today's grid is the same for every player and changes every day. Three lives, a score that favours rare answers, a daily leaderboard. Free play offers unlimited grids in four difficulty levels.

Frequently asked questions

Which countries are on the list?

The 197 sovereign states, and as many capitals. Territories, autonomous regions and constituent nations do not have their own entry.

How are transcontinental countries handled?

A country that spans two continents or two hemispheres is accepted on both sides. Russia counts in Europe as well as in Asia.

Do I need to type the exact name?

No. Search suggests answers as you type and ignores accents and capitals. The common name is enough.

Which languages can I play in?

English or French. The English editions have their own grid, generated on English names, and the leaderboard is shared.

Is Geodoku free?

Yes. Today's grid and free play are free to play in the browser, no account required. The Doku app is also available on iPhone and Android, with the same grids and the same progress.
